Enzymes: Targeted Technology for a Specific Job

Enzymes are used across many industries because they are highly specific in what they do. Each enzyme is designed to interact with a particular material and support a particular reaction.


For example:

  • Laundry detergents use proteases to break down protein-based stains and lipases to target fats and oils.
  • Household cleaning products use enzymes such as amylases to remove starch-based residues, lipases to break down grease, and proteases to eliminate organic buildup on surfaces.
  • Lactose-free dairy products use lactase to break down lactose.
  • Baking and brewing use amylases to convert starches into sugars.
  • Juice production uses pectinases to break down pectin and improve clarity.
  • Textile manufacturing uses cellulases to soften fabrics and create specific finishes.
  • Medical diagnostics use enzymes to detect targeted compounds in blood and other samples.


The key point is that these enzymes are not interchangeable. A protease does not perform the same job as a lipase, and lactase will not break down starch.


That same principle applies to every enzyme-based technology: the value comes from matching the right enzyme to the right target.


Enzymes are not broad, one-size-fits-all solutions. They are precise tools with a targeted mode of action.
